He's a great writer with great prose, stories, and appeal.

I don't read enough books a year to ever justify reading some 1000 page fantasy slop that's part 1 in a 7000 page series that is halfway finished. Maybe if fantasy authors could learn to write self contained stories in 400 pages or less, I'd give them a chance.

No story worth telling can be told in 400 pages. Go read more literary slop.

Sure but it doesn't take 5000 pages as well unless you're Proust where he kinda gets a pass.

Reminder for all writers who feel inferior to Sanderson's insane output: he has legitimate graphomania, and even with that he can't keep up with the consumption needs of his audience. If an actual graphomaniac can't satisfy the common reader, you won't either, so write well and take your time with it.

I don't even know how to reply to something so retarded. I mean, the fucking Odyssey is 400 pages long, give or take depending on the translation. Are you seriously saying that the Odyssey is a story that wasn't worth telling?

>have a meeeting nothing happens
>have antoher meeting nothing happens
>another meeting and nothing happens.
>give a character character development and completely undo it at the end of the book
Yes that certainly required a 1000+ pages.Guess which of his books this was.

His writing is actually genius, especially mistborn.

Kelsier grabs the attention of the antifascist lib left, a faction of well monied, no job having people looking for hobbies. Ideal customers.

Elend grabs the attention of the auth right monarchists, same basic premise, while not being TOO based because that's dangerous.

I started reading Elantris out of curiosity and it was so genuinely awful that I have to assume all of his "fans" are in on some grand joke at the expense of people who take literature seriously. I don't exaggerate when I say this: if someone can read Elantris and then turn around and praise it to no end, that person has such bad taste they are essentially mentally deranged. His fanbase is a cult of slop-loving retards.

The actual truth is that his books are just alright.
He seems like a nice guy but his work is just "okay". Most commendable thing about them is that they're very easy to read. Simple everyday language, no weird metaphors, barely any symbolism, if there is something important it will be repeated 3 or 4 times so you don't forget. Great to listen to as an audiobook in your car while only half paying attention, but not gripping.
Dude should also stop writing romances, they're extremely bland and sterilised, it's like he's writing them for abstinence-only mormons or someth- oh yeah that's it.
