So I'm a little more than halfway through with this and it's becoming a complete fucking borefest.

Is Murikami's work typically like this?

i bet some people who like his books will be all, "no" and some people who don't will be all, "yeah"

I really don't understand why Murakami has such a huge fanbase.

His writing is mediocre, and his characters are 2D stand-ins for the author himself. Beyond that, the books just don't say anything interesting.

I soldiered through all billion pages of TWUBC, and, well, now I know that Murakami is not for me. I feel ya, OP, but it was interesting enough to make me want to finish it, I guess, if I'm being fair. then again, I rather enjoyed The Great Gatsby, which is often cited as boring, so... yeah. I get the feeling I'd enjoy Murakami, or at least more so, if i read japanese. maybe.

good luck, OP
