So /lit/ I'm writing a short story for a university assignment. The story is a follow up from 'The Importance of Being Ernest'. I've got just one problem, what do I name Jack and Algernon? Obviously at the end of the play Jack finds out his name is Ernest and Algernon plans on being christened 'Ernest' (I think that's right anyway). Should I be calling Jack 'Ernest' and Algernon 'Algernon', or just leave their names as Jack and Algernon? This has been mindfucking the shit out of me.

replace their names with well known, contemporary celebrities.

Call them always "the Ernest formerly known as Jack/Algernon". Alternatively, name them after an unpronounceable symbol.

I like that idea. I had considered it but wasn't sure. I think I'll try it, if my assessor doesn't like it she can fuck off.

Take it to the next level by introducing a third Ernest: the Ernest Formerly Known As Prince.

Okay so you switch out Algernon's name with the mouse from Flowers for Algernon's name and you switch Jack/Ernest's name with Jim Varney's character's name, you then take Jim and write it on a huckleberry pie, you have intercourse with the pie and you are now yourself as Jason Biggs as Huckleberry Finn and you ride a raft down the Mississippi to class and have your escaped pie slave friend, played by that guy who played Stifler, deliver your paper. hope this helps
