My grandfather skirted both sides of Vatican 2. We had one conversation about the Jews. He was a lictor and was well qualified to speak on the topic. It was surreal watching an expert on the topic at hand fumbling basic questions from an inquisitive child. I had no idea until decades later why he fumbled the questions so hard that he left a permanent impression on me.
