Which country are you going to prison in? If it is in Canada - good Gods, man - you'll be on easy street. They play golf and have tattoo parlors in the prison systems there.

The European Prisons are sometimes inside of old monistaries or are, atleast, usually fairly small.

I used to work at a Borders Books and Tony Rezko's (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Rezko)) wife would frequently come in to buy books and have them shipped to his cell at the correctional facility. It always made me giggle a little. Common buys were word puzzles and soduko books. My suggestion would be get something to not just passive read but also something to keep your mind sharp.

So a friend of mine, on his first day in prison, jumped up on one of the many tables in the food court area screaming and started digging with his hand in his trousers and shat himself. He then proceeded to eat his shit in front of all prisoners while laughing. In the end he started throwing feces on the floor. He ended up in solitary confinement for a while. But no one dared fuck with him after that. A man eating his own excrements might snap at anytime they figured. The fact the he'd only stole a bike and ended up in minimum security prison might have played a part as well. But never the less you might want to give it a go.
