How accurate are these genre charts on the /lit/ wiki? pic related has a lot of great stuff (Ghost Story, Haunting of Hill House, etc.) but the 21st century section especially seems weak. I rarely ever see anons speak well of Heart Shaped Box (i thought it sucked personally) and House of Leaves is kind of a meme
What's good (in your opinion) and what's not? What should be added or taken away?

I was actually about to start reading Sardonicus soon because a coworker recommended it to me. She said it was the best horror she'd ever read. What does /lit/ think? I've read all of the Early Horror category before and also have read Psycho but I'm not all that familiar with the other stuff. I'm a big fan of dark/violent fiction though with horror as a peripheral draw.

I'm the opposite. I love the more 'Gothic' and more or less classic paranormal stuff. Straub's Ghost Story really blew me away in keeping that dreadful atmosphere and sometimes only hinting at something instead of showing it.

That's because it is weak. I especially dislike Joe Hill novels, most of his short stories are okay. I'd throw The Troop and Only Good Indians in there

I recommend Headhunter

Heart Shaped Box started off strong but quickly gets dumb. How is the story supposed to work when your ghost's ghost car can 1) be stopped by dogs which can easily be replaced and 2) has to follow the guy he's possessed in his ghost car that can feasibly get caught in traffic.
I've heard good things about The Troop by mixed opinions on Stephen Graham Jones; apparently Mongrel is good though. Have you read A Head Full of Ghosts? /lit/ seems to regard it as well as Heart Shaped Box

I'd add Horacio Quiroga to the early horror category (mostly "The Feather Pillow" and "The Beheaded Hen")

It is missing the essential /lit/ book

Came here to recommend that. Great fucking book.

NTA but I loved it. It has its haters though.

I think I may give it a try soon. I heard Tremblay's schtick is 'maybe it was mental illness instead of ghosts' which, depending on how it's done, can be lame
