How long would it take me to gain a massive intellect like David Foster Wallace?

Just write precocious characters with a thesaurus in your lap. Oh, use useless footnotes.

Appearing smart is 80% of being like DFW.

only plebs think anyone 'fakes' sesquipedalianness by using thesauri, they just can't admit it to themselves that some people have talents they don't.

Not really. It's incredibly apparent with DFW because the words do not flow. They clash, there's no fluidity.

It's pretty obvious when one goes word-searching because they can't see the forest for the trees, and IJ is exactly like that.

I think he's just a bad writer with a large vocabulary

Possibly, but, anyway, this isn't how DFW actually wrote; this thread is about how OP can have some semblance of being like DFW. For that, OP would have to have a thesaurus in OP's lap.
