do the posters of /lit/ change often? like is there a net increase/decrease of new posters? I would expect that if 4chan's participants were a dedicated bunch, the overall average post would change over time. I was wondering whether the content of /lit/ has changed much (i.e. taste) since 2006. Also, alexa rank is 1003

the content of /lit/ has changed enormously since 2006

its changed infinitely

There was a really short period a few months back where /lit/ was pretty intelligent and progressive. Even the vocabulary seemed to expand. It didn't last long--a week or two at the most, but there were consistently good threads, during that time.

"whoosh," the joke ejaculated, as it flew over anon's head.

It seems like /lit/ is perennially inhabited primarily by new readers, hence the prevalence of entry-level Western canon shit. I guess once people progress beyond a certain level of reading, or reach a certain age maybe, they depart /lit/ for greener pastures -- or maybe even the real world.

>>2243967
This is probably true.

>> No.2243971

Peaked around maybe September 2010. Early 2011 was drab, trolling in summer and now it's pretty average with a few gems to be found.

yeah like ppl post 100 times about that stupid 1q84 shit and i only saw one thread on the new uberto eco shit and it got like 2 posts, and the dfw threads never mention pale king even though it just came out...doesnt seem like ppl are really interested in new books...or classic books either really. just standard AP lit reading lists. boring.

>> No.2243992

i didn't see even one of the ny times "10 best books of 2011" posted here, ever. lol. i mean the ny times is fairly full of shit but still not even one? and no 1w84 was not "one of the best books of 2011", best selling? maybe. best? no.

>> No.2243999

fuck, i need to move closer to a halfway decent library... i'd post the shit out of some new books but they're outrageously goddamn expensive

like philip roth's last one was $25 and maybe 200 pages max

that's a fucking pamphlet and when i can buy basically my weight in used books for that much it doesn't make sense

>> No.2244006

So I'm going to ask the obvious question here, but why does it matter when a book is released? If it's good it's good.

For example, I'm reading Jane Eyre. This is Victorian Fiction, but I've still found the book to me useful. It's not about modern times perse, but nonetheless it describes things that I think probably every adolescent/young adult trying to find his way in life should able to relate too

Holy fuark I haven't been here in a while.
I see less of the ol' tripfags around here when I infrequently visit. As for me, I've been busy with school/friends/lifting/browsing other boards. In a way, I've "matured" past /lit/. The old trolling was fun..I enjoyed fall-winter 2010, when /lit/ was packed to the brim with Ayn Rand threads. Ah the good old days

>> No.2244033

People would always bitch when the legendary trip fags were still around. But now that they've left... well look how we have turned out! Thanks guys, thanks a lot. Without D&E this place has turned into a hipster shit hole.

The moment their bullshit enters a thread a good half of the posters scram

This is going to be contentious, but what are 'good' discussions? I don't see much trolling in most of the threads on the first page, so I'm assuming that's a non-issue.

>> No.2244220

i think /lit/ is good at discussing things, it just doesn't discuss a wide enough range of things. also, lots of superficial listing threads.

thanks, but there isn't a date from when they started. Would anyone be able to say whether those posters have 'grown'? Also, i remember one of them posted a lot of anti-drug posts which really went nowhere and were way off base--so i wouldn't agree that just because they post a lot, that their posts are actually meaningful or relevant.

Quentin has branched out to trolling other boards. I guess that could be considered growth.

Nice thread bump for someone hatin shitposting & tripfags.

>> No.2246086

I went on /lit/ when it first came about, then left for a while when the whole thing with tripfags turning the board into an RP of pretentious college intelligentsia got a bit overdone, and have been back for a while. Not sure what things were like for that gap, but from start to now, it's not too different. I'd say there's probably a group of consistent posters, but there's always people who come in and out of boards.
