I kind of ask that myself. I spend a lot of time reading, but that seems to defeat the purpose of reading in the first place, which is to better understand the world (either in the direct ways of non-fiction, or in the figurative, indirect ways of fiction). But the purpose of understanding the world is to better act upon and on it - so reading without activity feels like a waste. Reading gives me pleasure, but I'm afraid it might be of the onanistic sort.
