So who's working on a Novel? What genre and how far are you?

>> No.2241118

This won't end well.

Pet project:
Genre: none more just a collection of short stories.
%done: no idea because I don't see a conclusion, but have collected about 60,000

Propped project
Genre: YA
%done: skelton plan, character bio/history, 10,000words. No where near finished.

Rewriting the whole thing in my spare time. My second novel, but probably my only good one. Probably only good in my mind. I don't know what genre it would fall under. You'd probably find it under the 'literature' section at Barnes & Noble.

OP here.

Do you guys prefer to plot your stories? Or do you let them organically happen?

>> No.2241142

>>2241137
Isn't it the same thing?

I prefer to 'plot' them, but it's just a method of letting them organically develop without me cementing them into words. If anything it's just a longer period of organic development, since it's hardly ever the case that someone plots it out and then sticks with that plan 100%. I think the plotters are actually just antsy when it comes to actually typing the shit out, whereas those who type and type and type and do it as they go are simply less inhibited.

>>2241142
My understanding is that plotted stories, will appear forced or predictable to the reader. Other times nonsensical.

>> No.2241146

>>2241145
Plotted stories are fine IMO, but they do lead to bad characters. The characters have to fit in with the plot, which makes them appear bipolar, with sudden chances of minds and strange decisions being made.

That is a silly assumption. How do you know which books you have read were maticiously planned?

>maticiously

On that abuseive mush of letters it is time for me to go to bed.

OP here. Writing a Fantasy novel. About 40pages in. Trying to avoid sword and sorcery. Not using any traditional monsters or races.

>> No.2241170

I am.

Typical white male's first novel.

About a 20-something guy who can't cope with depression and everyone telling him to be an adult when he still feels very much like a kid, and so he throws himself into mainstream culture so he doesn't have to think so much about that part of his life.

I figure i've got one chance to write a novel about myself by proxy before people know me, and then I have to make up characters. Also, if that concept isn't the most pretentious thing you've ever heard I don't know what is.

Sounds good, id give it a go.

Who said 'you should never publich anything before you're 30?'

Thoughts?

Also, I'm watching the video for hero, Enrique iglesias

This shit gets on my nerves. No story "organically happens". Books are written, constructed, they are deliberate and crafted with careful consideration. Anyone that says otherwise is lying or a shitty writer.

I am writing a novel about a Welsh family during the first world war, from the perspective of a louse on the family dog.

It is an autobiography.

Sight your source.

Or was this outburst not a 'deliberate' act?

Back in the day when novels came out chapter by chapter serially, I doubt any writer would have had much idea how their plots were going to turn out.

This must be an internet first. Someone owning up to their stupidity. Then again, you are a retard, so maybe it doesn't count.

I'm writing one. This nerd had a crush on the popular girl in his class. she starts texting/contacting him via facebook. They flirt and such, but she ignores him in school. Eventually he asks her for naked pictures, she says 'send me some of you first' he does, she spreads them around school. He gets picked on, teased, decides to stalk her. Goes to her house to 'get those naked pictures' and winds up raping her. Hilarity ensues.

The goal is really to write a sympathetic rapist.
