What rapes? I just finished reading it and I can think of only a couple rapes. Am I forgetting a lot of these? That chapter about the guy who falls for a black native. Pig tries to rape Paola, but based Profane steps in. There were probably more, but this book had so much shit that the rapes were the least thing to stand out for me. The nose job chapter was disgusting.

The narrative vacillates in and out of focus, parabolically. Pynchon wrote the whole thing like one giant oscillating yo-yo of prose.

Keep that premise in mind as you read and you'll get a lot more out of it, even in terms of plot development.
