Reading Rilke drives me insane. He makes it all seem so easy. His writing is so aetheral. I will die on the hill that good poetry is like a fist in the stomach pit, like a massive, tough piece of meat that you have to gnaw on for hours. But Rilke invalidates this entire opinion of mine.

Anyone else find Put Out My Eyes kind of cringe?

Put out my eyes, and I can see you still,

I Like it. Imagine that this poem is addressed to God rather than a girl. A Job/Ahab like situation but that leads not to silence and not to defiance but to love
