People have named all sorts of things throughout history after characters or things in literature and poetry. This is a good thing (and, incidentally, further proof that Tolkien is going to be one of the few authors of the 20th century to become a big name on the level of Dante, Goethe, Dickens, etc.)

Art, literature is an art form.

Storytelling is an art form as well.

Back to prehistoric times, our heritage.

And Tolkien draws from Germanic mythology.

My dad read us the Hobbit as a kid, really loved it.

Because if this, I'm going to read the whole trilogy now.

Friend of mine loved the The Silmarillion, not decided yet.

The Hobbit is the peak of Tolkien. All the autistic lore ironically kills the mystique of middle-earth. Gandalf being an eccentric wandering magician is so much more interesting in it's fairytale simplicity than being an epic angel sent by the gods to defeat the dark lord. Shit's corny.

When you talk about light and the expanding universe things start getting fucky. The universe beginning 13 billion years ago means there's 13 billion Light years in either direction light could have reached, so about 26 billion LY across, but the universe itself has also been expanding since then, a phenomenon which cannot be adequately explained by modern science, so the universe is a lot bigger than you'd think it is. Or, at least, that's what current science has figured out so far.
