Jannies, do not delete this thread. It is not off topic. It is a podcast about literature and history that many /lit/ users listen to and enjoy.

I don't mind them but they come as huge liberals when they did the podcast on St. Augustine. like who tf cares if he had sex slaves. ain't none of your business.

Coincidentally, I just watched the episode on the fall of Adam and Eve last night and they spent almost the entire time praising the orthodox Jewish interpretation of it and shitting on Augustine’s

do the episodes ever repeat? I was shocked to find out that its been going on since ~1999 albeit as an actual radio program back then. When you check on the podcast apps it only goes back to episodes from, like, 2013.
So I was wondering if they ever repeat topics in that time. Though I guess at only one a week, there are enough topics to not repeat for the 1200 episodes or so they would have covered.

I like the Rime of the Ancient Mariner epsiode and I guess Roman Slavery, cause that happened to be the epsiode that I listened to that one time that I, in an effort to make listening less of a waste of time, made audio notes of while I was driving and then spent like an hour and a half making flashcards in anki (actually supermemo). Stopped cause it turned a 45 min episode into a like 3 hours affair

>do the episodes ever repeat?
Sometimes, but they aren’t exact repeats. For example, they have an episode on John Donne and also an episode on the metaphysical poets which is dedicated mostly to talking about Donne, as he’s the most important metaphysical poet. For another example, they have an episode on Oscar Wilde and also an episode on the English decadent movement which is dedicated mostly to talking about Wilde, as he’s the most important English decadent writer.

Go on the BBC website (bbc.co.uk/inourtime - I heard that in Melvin's voice, kek) and you can look through, and listen to the entire archive. BBC sounds is shit to search through, but the IoT site has them listen by topic, alphabetically, and possibly even chronologically too

Comfy

>that episode where they're talking about the house of lords and one of the guests asks Melvyn about his personal experiences as Baron Bragg and Melvyn aggressively shuts him down
I've listened to other shows with similar premises and they tend to devolve into bickering without the iron fist of someone like Melvyn, always ready to put academics back in line.
