Hey guys.
So I'm going into a Bachelor of Engineering next year, and I'd like to save some cash on textbooks. I'm currently looking at getting a kindle or some other ereader, but I'd love some feedback if anyone has tried using one for their studies.

Mainly, I want to know whether or not the kindle even has the ability to display mathematic symbols/formulae, and if not, then whether or not there is an alternative ereader that will be able to display such symbols.

Thanks!

This. But make you buy a refurbished or used one. Not worth the $370

Awesome - thanks for the advice guys!

.. Despite your advice though, I am tempted to just get a kindle 4, because I also plan to utilize it for personal reading and would prefer the extra portability and smaller size. Do you think a Kindle 4 would be alright for textbooks? I hear that if you use it in its horizontal mode its wide enough and can handle it pretty well.

Alright, you aren't going to find the perfect single reading device. PDFs and certain textbooks are a pain to read on the regular Kindle. The text is either too small (vertical mode) or too awkward (landscape mode). The kindle DX is better, but it's expensive and large, and it obviously doesn't do color. For me: iPad or laptop for PDFs and picture-heavy textbooks, and Kindle Touch (only $20 than the 4) for regular books.

Excellent - I plan to keep backups and PDFs and such on my laptop anyway. Thanks again for the feedback, I really appreciate it.
