Plato was right when he said that one should only engage in philosophy at an older age. One should gain some life experience first.

I used to think that reading philosophy books and books in general was giving me a lot of insight into life, but when I started valuing life with other people (friends, girls, family) more, I realised that those experiences where incredibly valuable.
Without life experience philosophy is useless, because there's nothing to apply your philosophy to.
How can you truly comprehend Plato's theory of Eros if you've never been in love yourself?

I can tell you from experience that young philosophy students are insufferable. You shoudn't even bother to start reading philosophy until you are at least 35, but even that's still too young (especially nowadays).
