This is not a stupid question or a stupid thread. Wanting to learn more and open your mind is always a positive and commendable thing.

Sometimes we suddenly realize how small our understanding of the world is. We realize how much of our lives and choices and ideas are formed by our environment and glimpse at how incredibly different our lives might be or how differently we might see the world if that environment was changed or different.

The person who wrote that post was rejecting the entire worldview and ethos of the OP, and sometimes having an entire worldview questioned can be an appealing thing.

I think topic and content might be a good place to start. If there is a particular subject matter or era of history you like, surely there is a classic piece of literature about that thing just waiting for you.

My recommendation is to read something interesting to develop the habit of reading and make your brain associate reading with something fun and pleasurable.

From there the sky is the limit.

Lack of anything else to guide your thoughts and beliefs, it's still important to understand that at some point written works are going to be insufficient for the personal development but they are essential at the start. I can think of a couple of routs:
1) Plato -> Aristotle -> Stoics (most popular works like Meditations by Marcus Aurelius and Letters from a Stoic by Lucius Seneca) -> Schopenhauer -> Nietzsche -> Carl Gustav Jung
2) Mein Kampf (in general there's a lot of politics of the time but also good things for any time) -> Rene Guenon -> Julius Evola
Of course you should also look into classic fiction. Search for works by Goethe, Dostoevsky, Homer, John Milton.
And don't turn into a pseud.
