Man, I kinda think both sides have a point here. It's true that Atkinson was cringey with his direct-marketing book mill in Chicago and his 850 pseudonyms that he used for credibility purposes. On the other hand, it's also true that he put in the research effort, had decent personal contacts among the erudite, and was a great synthesizer of original sources.

Just understanding the ideas and seeing if they make sense in your life should be all you spend any energy on. Trying to find holes in the authors credibility is all the occult community seems to do these days, just a massive waste. Even a liar can tell the truth if they become aware of it.

Sometimes people can get knowledge from the most unusual sources. It doesn't mean the source isn't garbage, its probably more indicative of a sort of natural qualification in the person reading it. So there's no point recommending inferior or fraudulent work when that same person could probably get more out of a good authentic text.
