Das Nibelungenlied.
I'm a literature student and a pretty shitty one at that.

Can you clarify what happened to Brunhilda and her child? Why are they simply lost after the argument with Kriemhilda?

Also did Siegfried actually penetrate Brunhilda or just steal her belt and ring?

45 minutes :(

Sorry, maybe /b/ did get to me. So can you help?

Christ you're testing me now, I mainly did Old English but I did touch on Icelandic texts...I believe the implication is that Siegfried did penetrate Brunhild because of things said afterwards...that's for sure...

In the Icelandic version I know she kills herself and in this version she doesn't...can't remember much more but wiki or jstor it?

>> No.2218350

I read that a while back but all I remember is that Siegfried didn't do it with Brunhild. That's all I can help you with, sorry.

If I could, I would, but I can't. Way too long since I read it, approx. 30 years

Can't remember much more than Siegfried getting it in the back. Oops, should've probably spoilered that.

Oh, but I can give you a hint: Germanfags like me can probably help more with this, but it's 1:45 am over here, so ... go figure.

Don't sweat it.

I actually thought I found a personal favorite both in terms of leading role and storyline but when they offed Siegfried in such a shitty manner I lost my cool. Now I have a passionate hate towards Hagen and the spineless twat known as Gunther.

If I ever get twin girls, I'll call them Brunhilda and Kriemhilda.

Germanfag here.
I have to clarify that OP is talking of the original German poem, not Wagner's Opera.

It is implied that Siegfried does, indeed, fuck Brünhild because there is an old view of taking off certain garments in Germany that can stand for ''fucking a virgin''. This is left up to the reader how to see this part of the story - very typical in German lit.

Also, Germany's version of the story is different than other tellings of the tale - in which Brünhild does not kill herself and outlives (we presume as a Walküre) Kriemhilda.

We can, therefore, assume that her child also survives. We can also presume, due to her former position as queen, she can leave and return to Isenland ( Iceland ) because the act of marriage was never consumated on the wedding night (very important in ancient Germany).

Hope that helped.
