Hey /lit/ just wanted to ask you guys for books with a central theme about finding a sense of self worth and building confidence. Recommend a self help book only if it's really really good, I find a lot of those books really preachy and overall very boring.
>inb4 just go to the gym/touch grass retard
yea i just want to learn about other ways i can learn to feel better about myself and change so i can actually be a better person

thanks :)

My psychiatrist recommended that I read The Compassionate-mind Guide to Building Social Confidence: Using Compassion-focused Therapy to Overcome Shyness and Social Anxiety.
It was completely useless for me, so I’m here recommending it for you.
I think it might be designed for women, so it will probably be more helpful if you are female.

If it wasn’t based in CBT your Psych is a retard. I was just trying to think of an easy book for anon and I came to “Status Anxiety” by Alain De Botton. I think you should consider reading it too. Just don’t look up the early-life history of (((who))) wrote it.

I tend to think that confidence comes from success but anyone who is successful nowadays has something wrong with them.

Read Stoic philosophy. hen you begin to develop virtue, self-worth will follow.

It was a mixture of late 19th-century german writers, Evola, Bhagavad Gita for me desu. But the shift was gradual. These books didn't give me confidence but they did help build a foundation for my self-worth. I recommend Ride the Tiger.

watch some youtube videos about nietzsche's ideas (unironically), and drop this idea that you learn things through books, or information altogether. confidence comes from experience, not knowing, infact knowing more will just give you more shit to doubt, just look at niggers, they are the most confident people on earth.

also if you already go to the gym, go do a striking martial art instead, either boxing or muay thai, this will have you learn more about yourself in a year and give you more confidence than any therapist ever could. the adrenaline and cardio high from training will completely destroy any inhibitions for atleast an hour after, and sparring will show yourself to yourself. everybody fights differently and its extremely personal, will you go for the attack? do you hesitate or pussy out? will you have a talent for deception and trickery? who knows. maybe you literally cry when you get hit in the face the first time, maybe 3 months later you are the one making new people cry. maybe you're helping them.

yo OP here, I like Nietzsche's work. I've read Thus Spoke Zarathustra, but I don't think I really got it on my first read. You got any recs on Nietzsche stuff?
Also what do you mean by not learning things through books? I know that I may not retain 100% of the information or fully process all that it could teach me, but I can at least get some perspective right?

lived experiences are infinitely more valuable than reading certain things, reading is essentially just talking to yourself and your brain knows that, even when you are very aware of some things in the world for example, you don't truly integrate it unless you personally experience it
you will never be truly prepared for life no matter how much knowledge you have, its not predictable so embrace facing the unknown and ditch the illusion of preparation
