If you could get someone to read a book of your choosing, what book is it and why?

Shill me a book, under the radar books in particular, but all are welcome

weird way to ask for a recommendation but ok: i would recommend skylark by dezso kosztolanyi. it's a hungarian book about this old couple and their ugly spinster daughter who goes away for a week and they get to spend some time by themselves. it sounds pretty mundane but actually it goes to some deep dark places and confronts ugly truths about the world that i don't usually see in literature and it's stuck with me for years. it's funny as fuck as well

I’ve always had my eye on that book but always passed it over. Thanks for the input. Sometimes I find the combination of bleakness and comedy to be really disconcerting and unsettling. Not books like Journey to the End of the Night, but books like Unclay by TF Powys, for example. Is Skylark a straight up depressing book?

>> No.22133040

i don't think it's necessarily a depressing book but it does get very dark and if you are in a depressed frame of mind it will certainly have plenty of food for that
