Have any anons here actually read this?
Which version do you prefer?
"The Mysterious Stranger" seems much more cynical. In both versions the eponymous character allows people to die for silly reasons yet he does this several times in "Mysterious" as opposed to only once in "44" and only then to an antagonist. The pacing of "44" felt more natural (though still not polished). Also "44" has more interpersonal drama whereas "Mysterious" is more concerned with questioning morality and God.
Despite the books both having a very similar ending with the eponymous character's monologue about the protagonist being a but a thought, "Mysterious" seems almost mean-spirited in a way.
