I have a playoff style bracket for choosing my next book. I’ll take 8 books that I’m interested in and assign them a number 1-8. Then I’ll use a random number generator to see who “plays” who. The first 4 books are the home team going across (obviously on the RNG I subtract 1 for each book already chosen). Once the 4 books are lined up going across I see who will complete with who using a RNG (subtracting 1 for each book taken out). Once the 4 matchups are set I’ll coin flip to see who moves on. Best of 3. Home team is heads. Finals is best of 5 since there are higher stakes. I proceed till I have a champion. That is the book I read. Fate has often blessed me

I do the same thing except I will do a best of 4, and if its a tie I go into overtime where whatever book title has the most anagrams is the one that moves on.

I always have a bunch of books I’m interested in equally. Of course, if I’m dying to read something, I’ll go ahead and read it. I mostly use the playoffs for rereads desu

This is what Jaynes reffered to as divination. This is done when volition is steneous. Such practices are all too common now. We often see it on this very site when people post those "gets" images and ad naseum replies to roll for them are prevelent. These people want to write or interact with something but it is a trouble for them and this in effect relinquishes them from whatever was on their mind and whatever it was that brought them to a thread. The implications are worrisome.

I mostly like the playoff format, especially this time of the year. I keep a detailed notebook and note the matchups, score and bracket
