I started writing a novel about a kid growing up in the '90s and '00s. The central conflict is all his internal struggles: religious upbringing, puberty, fitting in, identity, self-confidence, changing morals, and writing skills. In every chapter, one or more of those characteristics either takes a step forward or moves backwards. And the whole point of the book is you see the person he's grown into at the end, for better or worse. It's like Boyhood, but in text, and also far more personal because it's semi-autobiographical.

I have been trying to write something to send around for decades. I am also writing for myself right now, trying not to give a damn about anything else except creating something and watching it come to life. Attempted genre fiction, too, but I always slammed into a brick wall there. But I've also never published anything before, nor tried. I hear horror stories about how much of a garbage fire the New York publishing monopoly is now and...look. Bottom line, do you think anybody would be remotely interested in reading something like this, let alone willing interested enough to ask for it after a query letter?

I'm keeping this. Thanks.

"Man vs self" is still a viable conflict, but the particulars of your novel are well-trodden territory unless you have a very unique approach. Most people don't really want to read about the life and thoughts of some average guy

why would anyone be interested in something which isn't finished when they get finished pieces everyday? people want the finished product in their lap. anything else is pointless.

That's why I intend to finish and polish it first.
