I'm honestly surprised B&M hasn't gone down with blockbuster and other retailers against the internet and online shopping. Doubly surprising since literature is a semi-niche hobby. Go into Best Buy and its a hollow shell of what it once was, Fry's electronics has completely shut down, toy stores have been moved into mega markets, DVD/Movie retailers are slow-bleeding out of existence, the list goes on and on of retail stores either cutting down to 10 shelves, or dying altogether.
Yet B&N is still pretty much the same as it ever was. It's triply surprising that they still stock a decent amount of literature and are in prime retail locations.
All that said, I hate it. All the books are cheap paperback garbage with the purpose of convenience. Scribner, Penguin, or B&N classics.
What's really weird is B&N has it hands in and locations at universities and colleges, but won't stock university press books in any of their stores. It seems a no-brainer and I cannot for the life of me see why they don't do it.

Prices are often too high, but overall the store is not bad, and it's not as bad as it used to be.

The book variety is good. I was in one yesterday, and they had a lot of books I was interested in. For example, Lawrence Freedman’s "Strategy: A History" and "Say Nothing" by Patrick Radden Keefe. They are not exactly rare books, but they are unique enough that someone would have had to put some thought into stocking them.

The books there also were not politically biased one way or the other; for as many retarded "How to be an anti-racist" books there were, there were an equal number of "Red Biden: the Left's plan to implement Communism in 2024" type shit.

They have less variety than Amazon, and prices are generally higher, but sometimes I can find a book cheaper than I can on Amazon. It's also good to stop Amazon from monopolizing books. B&N also has a better selection than second-hand bookstores, which can be really hit or miss.

I have heard that B&N has devolved power to local employees to select books, so I think experiences might depend on how competent the people running a local store are. My local one seems fine. But I could easily see other stores making retarded decisions.

>Emil Maurice (German pronunciation: [e.mil mo.ʁis]; 19 January 1897 – 6 February 1972) was an early member of the National Socialist German Workers' Party (Nazi Party) and a founding member of the Schutzstaffel (SS).
>Hitler became SS member No. 1 and Emil Maurice became SS member No. 2
>He was Hitler's first personal chauffeur, and was one of the few persons of mixed Jewish and ethnic German ancestry to serve in the SS, being declared an honorary Aryan by Adolf Hitler in 1935.

>Erhard Milch (30 March 1892 – 25 January 1972) was a German general field marshal (Generalfeldmarschall) of Jewish heritage who oversaw the development of the German air force (Luftwaffe) as part of the re-armament of Nazi Germany following World War I. He was State Secretary in the Reich Ministry of Aviation and Inspector General of the Air force.
>In 1935, rumours began to circulate that Milch's father was a Jew. The Gestapo began an investigation which was halted by Hermann Göring, the commander-in-chief of the Luftwaffe, who produced an affidavit by Milch's mother that his true father was her uncle, Karl Brauer. Milch was then issued with a German Blood Certificate.[2] If true, that would mean that Milch's mother, Clara, committed not only adultery but also incest.

>(Heydrich) A talented athlete, he became an expert swimmer and fencer. He was shy, insecure, and was frequently bullied for his high-pitched voice and rumoured Jewish ancestry.[16] These rumours increased after his maternal uncle Hans Krantz married a Hungarian Jew named Iza Jarmy.[17] However, the family maintained cordial relations with the Jewish community; many Jewish students attended the Halle Conservatory, and its cellar was rented out to a Jewish salesman. >LITERALLY ALL THE CENTRAL SOVIET POLITBURO WAS JEWISH
Of the OG Politburo, Stalin and Bubnov were definitely 100% not Jewish. Lenin kinda barely counts since due to his closest connection being a Jewish great-grandfather that spent his life washing the jewishness out of his own and his sons' biography in order to avoid imperial persecution. The rest were indeed Jews.

By mid-Stalinist period and WWII, the Politburo became a lot less Jewish and a lot more cosmopolitan in general: Ordzhonikidze (Georgian), Mikoyan (Armenian), Kosior (Polish), Kuusinen (BENIS :DDDDDDDD), Chubar, Zhdanov and Khruhchev (Ukrainians), Rudzutaks (Latvian), among a lot more Russians.

Politburo was also not that influential in the nascent USSR, and became absolutely useless under Stalin (well, everything that was not Stavka or a single-use committee appointed by Stalin was useless under Stalin). It took centre stage during the Thaw, as a meeting-point of balance between different arms of the party, aimed at preventing personal accumulation of power in the upper echelons and emergence of another Stalin-like figure.

I love Barnes & Noble but I admit to not shopping there much like I used to. They just can't beat Amazon. I literally go there to get coffee and browse to take pictures of books I'll later buy on Amazon. Terrible, I know lol.

They do have good deals on classic fiction and other books. A lot of times they have their own published special editions of books and those are interesting.

Some of the things they do still boggles the mind like having an entire section dedicated to DVDs/Blurays/Vinyl etc. I say let the toy section take over those spots and have all these SAHMs fork over their money. Anything to keep them afloat.

Every year they do a 50% off Hardcover books on December 26th and sometimes another one a month after. I take full advantage of that sale. I bought 8 hardcover books last December.
