A 15 year old can watch any movie. There is no high barrier or patrician films. It is a low brow art. Any movie watcher who thinks otherwise is a pretentious pseud

Look for adaptations of course, like The Talented Mr Ripley, On Chesil Beach, etc

Others I'd include:
The Flowers of Evil is weebcore lit series.
Ingmar Bergman's films
Sideways
The graduate
To live
The bridges of Madison county
Blue Valentine

Basically ask yourself if the film focuses on the concept, stars (rather than character), and speculative nature that departs from more down to earth realism (as opposed to le ghetto gangster so much shooting wow gritty realism). If it does then it's not lit.

Not sure about /lit/ but I like them
Bridge over the river kwai
Lawrence of Arabia
Phantom of the opera
Dracula
Frankenstein
Hunt for red October
Das boot
Interstellar
Deer hunter
Wild
12 angry men
Platoon
Thin red line
Goodfellas
Enemy at the gates
Amadeus (my favorite movie I think)
I assume /lit/ really likes anything by yasujiro ozu

In terms of anime
Vision of escaflowne
blue gender
These next ones are for all the kids out there
Death note
Violet evergarden
Neon Genesis(not the biggest fan of it)
Code Geass (probably not but I do like the little robots)

In terms of series I am sure there are some that are good enough for /lit/ but I can't think of them currently.

Anyone can watch a Bresson movie and understand it. Kek at flickwatchers and tunelisteners thinking they have refined taste. There is a reason movies and music draw pseuds. It’s extra funny when they try to highlight their taste as more avant-garde, niche, and obscure, as if that makes them patrician

Bungou Stray Dogs for fun anime

The Tragedy of Macbeth (2021) is pretty fucking kino cinema

Also have a soft spot for The Passion of Joan of Arc. Watch the Criterion Collection both as it's original silent depiction, and with the option to watch it with a score that ratchets up the emotion to 11.

Finally, Mirror (1975) by Andrei Tarkovsky

Anime and manga:
>Ping Pong
>Takemitsuzamurai
>Kaiba
>Sonny Boy
>Utena
>Ichikawa's anthology volumes
>Dead Leaves
>Shimeji Simulation
Note: This is not a list of good anime and manga. It's simply a list of anime which is self consciously trying to be artsy.
