So I stopped at Half Price books randomly and actually found an amazing looking book that hits all the right niches for me. I guess HPB at least in my area bought it for their store actually because they had several copies at multiple stores. It's really cool and way more erudite than the average book store goer can handle so I thought I'd let the /iit/izens know about it. Only cost me $8 for a brand new copy and it comes with pictures! I never get pictures in my books anymore.

and here's the blurb on the back. Most of the reviews are like "this will melt your brain"

That description didn't make me any wiser so I'm still not sure exactly what that is. Is it a what-if history book through a horror/occult lens?

The goodreads reviews have good descriptions. It's like a very erudite pseudo-memoir/essays type thing about anything occult and gothic and horror related in British history. He just rambles on about interesting obscure topics. A lot of 20th century history. I gotta look through it more I just bought it and went to work so I haven't flipped through it much. It has a lot of nice pictures of castles and ritualistic scenes and British culture.

I used to love Half Price Books, but they keep closing stores (RIP Rice Village) and something changed--their selection and prices stink even accounting for inflation. (This may or may not be pulling better inventory and selling it online). In the last few years I've gone out empty-handed whenever I visit one.

I know what you mean. I mostly just buy books online and it's almost always cheaper than getting stuff from hpb which is a shame. Although I checked online and couldn't find a copy cheaper than what my store was charging so that was a surprise.

I almost bought this on Amazon a couple of years ago but was unsure if it would be worth reading.
