That is your fault for even considering opera recommendations on this board.

>> No.21970346

i doubt anyone here suggested modern performances. but theater was always dominated by fags but now they're permitted to be flagrant in their faggotry

Opera is good but I swapped back to Firefox.

All of modernity is infected with liberalism. You need to watch performances recorded before the 60s.

Cherubino is a (mezzo-) soprano role

So by your logic it would fine if he were played by a black guy who sung soprano?

I've seen 2 operas th is year and they were flawless. Not a darkskin among them.

>> No.21970807

I've literally never seen an opera that was anything like that and I've seen dozens.

Like caviar, cocaine, sex with teenagers and other rich people shit it's heavily overrated though.

Opera is not overrated rich people shit, most people do not hold the opera in high regard. Champagne is overrated rich people shit, cigars as well. Opera though compared to film is not overrated since it is much more enjoyable to watch a kino opera or ballet than most films, even good films

Have you seen Othello?

Cigars are not overrated. You probably smoked some overpriced ACID dogshit cigar. Are Cubans overrated? Yes, absolutely, but they're still good. Cigars are an expensive form of tobacco, but they're not overrated, not post cigar boom. All Tobacco is underrated due to all the negativity from non-users and health officials, but the most underrated tobacco product is nasal snuff.

Nicotine isn't overrated but retards like you sure do overrate it.

Cherubino should indeed be played by a woman, and there is nothing wrong with an aged white woman playing Cio-Cio-San as long as she is a really good singer, although ideally it should be played by a young woman.
The rest of what you are describing is called REGIETHEATER: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regietheater
It's essentially directors destroying the original work, under the guise of "artistic freedom", which essentially means freedom to deface old art through the employment of modern political trends.
I strongly DO NOT recommend that you watch any regietheater, and the main reason is not even how ugly and woke it looks, but rather that, believe it or not, some directors actually *change* the original storyline into something else. I am not lying. They really do this, and I have seen it more than once.
Many singers hate it to death, but these theater people have political influence, for some weird reason, specially in Europe, and nowadays with the wokes.

I recommend older directors like Ponelle, Franco Zefirelli, etc. They tend to be much better and respect the original aesthetics of the work, while having a style of their own.

Here is some Zefirelli:

Here is some Ponelle:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8A3zetSuYRg

That's how those works should look.
Overall, almost any production before the 1980's will be good. But you'll have to look for them, and get used to lower video quality.
Some singers are also most commonly seen in good production, I guess it's because they can choose. Placido Domingo, Pavarotti, etc. are usually in very good ones.

One of my favorite productions is Ponelle's Carmina Burana. It's not an actual opera, but the production is a very faithful imagination of the world of the original Latin text. I love it.
Here's some of it:

For Wagner, Otto Schenk is supposed to be the best, but I haven't seen it (the files on Rutracker are too heavy).
I've seen the Boulez version from the 80's, and although the visuals annoyed me now and then, it's good enough. In the Götterdämmerung you'll have to accept looking at Viking heroes dressed up like 19th century English politicians, but outside of that, there's not much that perverts the text, just pretend it isn't there.

The problem with regietheater is that these people are intellectual midgets who think they're giants. They actually have nothing new to say, it's the same old post-45 mantras repeated ad nauseam. There isn't actually any intellectual content in their distortions.

>Like caviar, cocaine, sex with teenagers and other rich people shit it's heavily overrated though.

You are an imbecile, really a complete imbecile.
Opera is probably the highest musical art, simply because it is able to contain all the others. It's no wonders that many composers built their whole musical lives within it, and those, like Wagner, who dreamed of a total artwork turned to opera for a (false but plausible) solution.
Even the beethovenian symphony ultimately had to resort to the techniques of the oratorio.
The greatest operas - a Tristan, an Orfeo - are as great as any musical work can hope to be.

Fidelio the character is a woman disguised as a man. Brunhilde was originally played by a fat woman and often is, hence “the fat lady sings” idiom
