Hello /lit/
Can any of you guys point me to ancient Greek literature. I'm kinda new to reading but i don't want to start at fucking harry potter of all things. So I want to learn were books started. I also have an Intrest in fairytales and the like.
Can you point me to stuff like Hercules and adonis? With links preferred

You can read HP and EH’s mythology. Greeks are the beginning not the rule.

Start with Homer (Iliad and Odyssey), then go to Hesiod (Theogony and Works and Days). After you're finished with these two, come as again.
As for editions: you should get Lattimore translations for Homer.
For Hesiod, I've found a translation in my native language that properly translates the names of several muses, nymphs and so on to their equivalents. This is great for the enjoyment of the book. I don't know if such edition exists in English. Maybe someone can enlighten you.

Get a used paperback off abebooks for really cheap. They've got dot com, dot co dot uk, etc. even for other European countries. Also, I suggest aesop's fables, get the Oxford one. If you want to read homer, get the fagles translation.
