So, tl;dr, nuAtheism started as a grassroots movement by people who were sick of low church American Protestantism. This was the first of the "e-scholar" type movements that you see a lot of today, where people on the right half of the bell curve just start reading and discussing stuff. There was a lot of reading of Aquinas and other Church Fathers, and there used to be huge websites where you could argue against low church American Protestantism via argument trees. If they say X, you point out that Aquinas said Y; if they say A, you point out that the Bible says B, so on and so forth. This made a lot of really important people super butthurt because a lot of money went into putting people like Joel Osteen and Kent Hovind into position to control dumbfucks, and these dweebs were messing that up.

Eventually, a faction that saw atheism as a way of doing illiberalism broke off when they realized that atheism was not, in fact, going to lead to illiberalism. This group became the Alt-Right. In 2011, at the World Atheism Conference (lmfao), some he-nerd tried to ask a she-nerd out on a date in an elevator. It went sour, and atheism split (again). SJWs came from the side that said that male sexuality was bad, and the other side just merged into Libertarianism.
