If they're secret why does the author know them? Does everyone know about them now? Were they secret because they're not very important and they weren't divulged urgently, or are they secret because the author is confusing secrecy for having been ignored.

>Extremely fun, extremely interesting, but fundamentally unreliable. Manly wrote this book in his early twenties. He's obviously well read and very intelligent but this book is written with a pretty significant bias toward his own obvious Masonic leanings, and most of the lore he has absorbed due to this association is accepted by him and presented as unsubstantiated fact. I will admit it lends a certain kind of mystique to the yarns he spins. For instance, I would personally love to believe that some inheritor of the egyption mystery schools living today knows the secret location of the original 42 manuscripts authored by the authentic historical Hermes Trismegistus written on papyrus and saved from the vandals of Alexandria, as he asserts. But I don't and he definitely doesn't go out of his way to give any evidence to validate that wacky claim. So all and all impressive work that should be taken with a huge grain of salt.
Your rebuttal?

What's the value of reading Evola and hardcore esoteric stuff like that? I don't want to know how to do magic I just want details and history of its practice as well as ancient knowledge on shit like the Pyramids being much older than we think and Atlantis and cool shit like that. Apparently Enoch from the book of Genesis was really Hermes Trisgestimus, for example. Cool alternative history from the deep past, Conan the Barbarian, Graham Hancock sort of shit, but moreso thru a comparative mythology/anthropology kind of lens, which is exactly what Secret Teachings happens to be. It's awesome honestly.

MPH and movements like theosophy are pretty much about syncretising all the world's religions.

The traditionalist frame is more like viewing the world's religions as aspects of one eternal universal truth, aka "Tradition", manifested in various forms in different times and places but ultimately embodying the same principles.
They also emphasise that chronological history is decline and we're living in the terminal stage of that decline (the Kali Yuga) where this timeless truth has been obscured to modern people by materialism, so it's unlikely that any of us can really partake in genuine "Tradition".

Its largely why I can't get behind the traditionalists with their "woe is me! One needs a teacher to guide him to the secrets! And there are no such teachers left!" There are teachers left and they aren't people. Call them spirits, call them phenomena, call them mystical messages from a higher power, call them revelation on a probing mind. I know Manly P Hall was a mason but he was also murdered by other masons and they stole his books so i would imagine that he probably has some worthwhile ideas.

He wrote a lot of books on philsophy, religions and occultism in general so I think while he likely has a Masonic perspective its a good idea to get that perspective to see what the masons are really all about instead of just shouting masons are devil worshippers.

If Masons are your enemy I think its worthwhile to understand them or where they are wrong on things or what knowledge they do possess.
