To someone in the game, who does not know it's a game, losing loved ones to ingame monsters is just as real and painful. I'm not the one struggling to understand or lacking self awareness here. Read some Alan Watts. If reality is God's entertainment and we are all fractional expressions/avatars of that singular being, it does make sense of why the story of life would not be a purely pleasant one. There has to be conflict and drama, which sometimes includes fear, death and suffering, to tell a meaningful and entertaining story.

Yeah I know the problem is not new in any way, but I'm asking about people coming to grips with it. You're blatantly failing to see that people who lived lives full of constant struggle not to mention personally were surrounded by massive child mortality rates in the past had less of a problem with this than you do.
