P&V is much better. Maude turns Russians who say their r as a French r to sound posh into Russians who say they’re r as w like Elmer Fudd. P&V Anna Karenina however is terrible and translates the prose to be dumbed down and midwit, surprisingly getting recognition by Oprah for who who raves about their translation of AK. Maud and Garnett are both better for AK but the Schwartz translation is the best for AK and P&V is the best for W&P

Aristocrats who live on slave labor get a taste of the real world and it wakes them up. Ann Karenina is also about transformation but about individual transformation but it’s about translation due to relationships: the establishment of relationships and families and the sundering of them makes the characters grow and change, or warp and mutate.
