The more I read, the more I realize that going to school was a mistake. I hate myself for having wasted 13 life years for this. Home education, self learning and learning a trade absolutely mog the 'traditional' school system of sitting in a class.

Instead of going to school I read books and explored abandoned buildings. It was a comfy life.
Still managed to eventually study at a university later though.

it took you 13 years to get your phd? yeah, that probably wasn't a great idea. a lot of schools now have programs where you can take grad classes senior year and use them towards your masters. bang out a masters in one year and move on. staying for more than a decade? idk dude. even if you get a job doing research for google, you already lost 10 years of earning which at an average 200k salary is fucking 2 million dollars down the drain, just do you could put "phd" after your name? vanity.

Schooling is necessary for the 85% of people who respond to nothing but institutionalized pressure, but education should be re-organized in a way where there's a self-directed/non-traditional path available for everyone who wants it, and a series of exams to assess your level in lieu of diplomas. It would also encourage people over the typical college age to work on their education at later stages in life, which is something a lot of people would like to do but consider a waste of time because they can't commit to a full course or degree.

Every single skill with tangible proficiency levels like language learning or programming, that can be learned independently or at schools, proves otherwise. Literally *no one* you meet who is accomplished at them credits their formal education for it, and the majority tends to not even have any. The common story is usually of people taking classes for years and not being able to do the basics until they take charge of their education, not to mention forgetting all the declarative, arbitrary rules they learned as soon as they graduate. Obviously not everything in education is a "skill", but everything will have a degree of applicability and a tacit dimension that no one learns by any means other than their own.

Listen. I am one of those high iq people who didnt go to uni. I speak 3 languages, taught myself c/c++/c# and a bunch of math beyond Hilbert spaces. I simply learned welding and also became a certified electrician, and I already made more money than humanities professors in my city. From here on I started investing. Extremely basic stuff such as s&p500 alone will let me retire before 30 on a poverty lifestyle. I was born poor, my hobbies are reading and working out, stuff that's already free so I dont care.

Who controls this world? Who runs global economy? Fortune 500 CEO, what background do they all have? Entire Chinese government, what background do they have? Foreign policy, how do these treaties get signed? (short answer: missile technology, look up start3 etc).
Engineers. That's who. They have the coolest jobs. Nuclear submarines, ai, materials science, hypersonics, all the generic 'cool stuff' topics, its all (hard) science and engineering.

You can get a piece of paper that says you're an engineer and still have spent your whole college years mostly taking literature classes, hell just audit or show up to classes and don't do any of the assignments

Also no matter what you do in college, if you don't learn at least 2 languages while there you are a fucking retard. That is an instant boost to your future income, brain health, life quality, everything.

When everyone is required to have a degree to enter into decent jobs in the workforce, universities treat people not as students, but as customers, and the quality of education declines considerably. If you go to college, study stem, and teach yourself lit on the side or afterwards. We live in the Information Age. Information is everywhere and free a lot of the time. Almost all scholars at Ivy League levels publish their work, too, so you don’t have to sit through boring lectures at the local state school from a guy who probably barely paid attention in community college in the first place.

I could easily raise intelligent children without the aid of any school and this was commonplace until the early 19th Century. Summarizing, school is for parents who do not want to raise their children themselves under their own principles, because they have none or because they consider that their own principles coincide with those of the sovereign, and a tool to better extract force from the population by the sovereign himself.
