You don't just 'start' with René Guénon, you are taken in and your worldview rearranged by him, your presuppositions that you had always taken for granted are interrogated and shown to be hollow and vacuous, the beliefs instilled in you via the educational system are tarnished, the claims of 'science' are debunked, and just when the night seems darkest, the light of gnosis dawns and a flood of the pure knowledge of unity enters into oneself, liberating the heart from its woes and casting the world in a new, beautiful vision.

Rene Guenon was a prominent French philosopher and metaphysician who wrote extensively on traditional metaphysics, symbolism, and spirituality. If you're interested in studying his works, there are a few things you can do to get started:

1. Familiarize yourself with the intellectual and cultural context of Guenon's time: Guenon lived during a time of significant cultural, philosophical, and spiritual upheaval, particularly in Europe. Reading about the historical and intellectual currents that shaped Guenon's thought will help you better understand his ideas.

2. Start with Guenon's most famous works: Guenon's most well-known works include "The Crisis of the Modern World," "The Reign of Quantity and the Signs of the Times," and "Symbols of Sacred Science." These works are a good place to start if you're new to Guenon's ideas.

3. Read secondary sources: There are a number of books and articles that have been written about Guenon and his ideas, which can help you gain a deeper understanding of his work. Some good starting points include "Introduction to the Study of the Hindu Doctrines" by Marco Pallis and "Rene Guenon: Some Observations" by Frithjof Schuon.

4. Consider reading works that influenced Guenon: Guenon was heavily influenced by traditional metaphysics, particularly the Hindu Vedanta and Sufism. Reading works from these traditions can help you better understand Guenon's ideas.

In general, it's not strictly necessary to read works that came before Guenon in order to understand his ideas. However, having a broad understanding of the intellectual and cultural context of his time, as well as some familiarity with the traditions and ideas that influenced him, can be helpful in contextualizing his work.

either first half of introduction to study of Hindu doctrines (defines various terms he uses like metaphysics, tradition, religion etc.) or crisis of the modern world. Then you can kind of go where you want but ofc his metaphysical texts are by far the hardest (I.e. reign of quantity, Vedanta, multiple states of being), so keep that in mind

It’s orientalist, mystic silliness. Total waste of time.
Anything worthwhile that he said was said better by others without all of the baggage.

It would take a long time to list every single modernist writer not named James Joyce. All of them offered great critical insights into modernity, they all expressed them better than he did, and most of them were able to do so without the mystical silliness.

Traditionalism as embodied in Guenon is a Death Cult, will to nothing, Nihilism. They believe in the complete destruction of everything personal, you just merge into God--then why receive a body in the first place? Who knows. Because disequlllibreium must perforce lead to a greater equilibrium... You are so smart guys.

Guneon is a great entry point into Eastern metaphysics, but he was really just an arrogant opium smoking loner. Evola at least is more exciting. But don't fall into the trap
