If it's to impress a girl read shit like A Little Life or My Year Of Rest And Relaxation. Basically just google popular Tiktok books. Intellectualism is not requaired unless she's seriously into literature, and even then you'll be safe with reading Pride and Prejudice and either of the Bronte sisters.

She said Catcher in the Rye is her favorite book, she likes I Have No Mouth And Must Scream because it's "edgy", and she said 1984 and Fahrenheit 451 are "incel" books.

What does this mean?

If she's sexy just agree with her. Orwell and Bradbury are overrated anyway. If she continues to be insufferable, explain to her how the Catcher in the Rye is actually about Holden raping his little sister (become well versed in this theory so you can shoot down any and all her objections) and ruin her favourite book for her.

What? In what world are incels really into 1984?

>> No.21812994

>>21812967
I imagine the chain of logic is incels are comparing things like the acceptance of trannies and LGBT indoctrination/DEI in schools to 1984-esque behavior, so if someone likes 1984 that makes them an incel. It's kind of how people used to say 1984 is a reddit book because reddit would always make posts like "IT WASN'T SUPPOSED TO BE AN INSTRUCTION MANUAL" any time a Republican politician did anything, and they always said that in relation to Trump.

I like to do one pulp and fun book, one pop science or pop history, and one scripture, classic, or philosophy text at a time. Sometimes you can mix two with historical fiction. Right now I am reading Master and Commander and Shogun and Exodus. Next on my list is going to be Essential Judaism and the next one of the expanse series, I think number 6. I would like to know more about Judaism than an average jew.

She's genuinly right about 1984 being an incel book, the fact that other anons are saying it isnt is concerning. Fahrenheit 451 I dont see as incel book, a tiny bit misognist at best. But both books are overated as hell.

I've never fully read I have No Mouth but I Must Scream but I can see it being considered somewhat edgy from what Ive read and heard about. The most concerning thing is her saying Catcher in the Rye is her favorite book, I read it for the first time recently and that book pisses me the fuck off. People who say its their favorite book either havent read it as an adult or are immature morons, anyone who says its their favorite book has a massive red flag hanging over their head. Most girl readers knows this already, but as a whole guys do not. So honestly she's a 50/50 of either being smart or a total dumbass with books. But having Catcher in the Rye is still a red flag, I would ask her more on why she likes it. If she loves it just because she still relates with Holden. Run, its one of the biggest red flag for anyone who likes/talks about literature

Loving the Catcher in the Rye for relating to Holden is reserved for 15 year olds who skim Nietzsche. She probably just appreciates the dynamic of a horribly annoying character who makes complete sense, like the other people who recognize its value.

In the beginning of the book yeah, I related a bit when I was a teenager. As the book went I lost that and only felt emathetic. After the events of him getting prostitute, for the rest of the book I lost my empathy for him, their a difference betweent stubborn, disillusioned of the adult world, awkward, horny, slightly depressed, and anxious as a teenager, and than being like Holden. Holden is all the traits above but far worse and nonsensical the more you think about it.

>> No.21814075

>>21813853
Mostly agree with you. Sometimes Holden has good opinions, most of the time he's a complete jackass moron. All the stuff Holden said that can be right about, is casted aside for me. Just because of how Holden is as a character. I can somewhat see the appeal of people liking the book so much, but only if they feel emathetic of Holden but still not like him overall. People who still relate to him and find every idea he has as true or somewhat true. Is a big red flag for me

Definitely. Holden is immature and reactive and lazy, but he's also basically an abused dog. He's an asshole constantly, but mostly because he's been kicked for doing his best.

Some moments Holden is justfied in being an asshole. But there's many moments in which he can better his situation (not just trying harder in school)but he does'nt. He's more like a dog who broke his leg because of abuse. A few times he gets up only to fails. But than he refuses to get up and walk again despite the leg being healed and theirs no real pain anymore
