Despite being assembled/partially written by his editor posthumously, You Can't Go Home Again has many wonderful chapters.

Wolfe was a weird writer in that he was best suited for prose poetry and short fiction but chose to write huge novels instead.

The wizard knight is his best books

>> No.21815113

I just started The Wizard Knight and am enjoying it more than I expected. The idea of a Schwarzenegger-built manchild wandering around bullying random peasants is so funny.
I also noticed it continues the trend of terse "I'm about to ask you three questions. Tell me that you understand. If I think you're being dishonest I will beat you. You are to refer to me as Sir Abel in your responses to these questions" dialogue that everyone makes fun of in Long Sun. Was it autism?

It's incredibly fun and full of imagination, but a lot less serious than New/Long/Short Sun. I found the Solar Cycle to be more intellectually rewarding, while Wizard Knight was one phenomenal ride, but more of a fable than a "serious" work.

The Knight is among the best fantasies every written. It has a little bit of everything, and yes Able beating the shit out of people and taking their stuff. Just remember when things slow down in The Wizard to stick it out to the end, even if you have to take breaks. The end is worth it.
