It is going to be pretty hard getting a child our of your cock's piss-slit, so I'd recommend reading a lot of mpreg fanfiction, particularly about birthing.

Congratulations! Kids are the best worst decision you can make.

Pic related for after the first month. Won't help you in your pregnancy, and won't help you look after your kid (most parental books in physical bookstores will be fine for this, just throw a rock and hit one).

This will make you wonder why you're yelling at your kid because they didn't follow instructions 100% or took too long going from a to d to c to b. It helps you establish and question whatever insane standards and metrics your own fucked up parents set for you and have passed on.

Exactly this.

The book helps identify times in your childhood you might feel bad or embarrassed about and help you realise the adults were the only culpable ones and should have been responsible.

I remember at school my friend's parent would give me a lift, dropping me at my home on the way. Sometimes it would be his grandad, and he was always such an asshole. Always made me feel unwelcome (he was going my way anyway). He scared me. But this prick decide to be the cherry on top of a shit day.

All this time I've though I must have done something wrong. The book helped me understand as I was 12, he was the only one who should have been responsible, and it wouldn't have killed him to smile, or even fucking say hello.

The kind of stuff I want my boy to be aware of in life.

I love Undset, she delves deeper into her characters than most writers would dare to attempt. Kristen and her family felt more real to me than a lot of people I actually know. I picked up the book on a whim the first time around, without knowing much about it, and at first I thought it was a biography--it wasn't until 500 pages in that I realized only the kings and nobles were real people, and that everyone in Kristen's world was fictional.

While I told OP that I think every woman should read it, I generally think every reader should read it. Women should read it to understand themselves, and to understand the camaraderie between men and the bonds between mother and child, while men should read it to understand women and what they go through. It's such a quiet epic--it doesn't have any huge Hollywood action scenes or anything, but its scope is absolutely breathtaking.
