Yeah but what did you find so far? Cursed ancient treasure on a cannibal tribe island seems like the most stereotypical adventure story yet you dont see a lot of literature about it. I really doubt that hollywood produced more content than literature did on any topic, yet I can recall so many movies about this but so few books.

Old pulp is pretty tame compared to comics and films. Most of it has been lost or is rotting in old magazines, so there may be wild shit hiding out there, but most of it isn't very good. You can go further back into Victorian era detective and adventure fiction, the Torture Garden has a lot of those tropes.

Try Jirel of Joiry, a pulp heroine of the same era as Howard (CL Moore and he wrote each other). But while Howard came up with Sonja in name only, Moore wrote her in Jirel - fiery haired aristocratic warlord in a magical medieval France.

First couple of stories are about her descending into hell to gain special powers to conquer her foes, and ends up battling lots of slimy weird things.

Vernor Vinge is extremely good. Some argue that Tatja Grimm is his weakest work, but this is only because he won Hugo and Nebula awards for A fire upon the deep and his other novels. He is one of the biggest sci fi authors out there.
All im going to say is that Tatja is a sci fi novel too. It might not look like it from the start, I guess that's another thing that make it cool.
