What's the Lara Croft of literature?

I am talking stories with iconic hard body chicks in skin tight outfits exploring ancient mysteries on exotic locations full of tribal cannibalistic cults, exploding airplanes, gruesome fighting, cliff climbing, bears eating people, man vs nature motifs, dominating action mystery adventure categories for decades, extreme commercial success, pseudo history, mindless fun, total immersion, collapsing burning buildings, arrows and grenades flying, priceless artifacts, lost civilizations, puzzles..
You know, everyone loves these things from time to time, surely its all based on some kind of literature, im just a bit of a newfriend to recognize it on its own.

Thanks, I actually never heard about any of these. I always thought Lara was some sort of modern Robinson Crusoe with a whole bunch of fantasy stuff and explosions added.

She's more in the vein of doc savage and the pulp that influenced Indiana Jones. Or the old guard of looter/archaeologist/adventurers that explored the world and wrote history, but with tits. I think there's some Jacques Cousteau in her too.

Tits and adventure is exactly what I am in the mood for right now. It takes me back to a much simpler life of being 15 again and enjoying life much more.
I wonder if Conan would hit the spot too? Cimmeria sounds a bit too fantastical, like I would have to remember too many wizards and whatnot.

Yeah but what did you find so far? Cursed ancient treasure on a cannibal tribe island seems like the most stereotypical adventure story yet you dont see a lot of literature about it. I really doubt that hollywood produced more content than literature did on any topic, yet I can recall so many movies about this but so few books.

Old pulp is pretty tame compared to comics and films. Most of it has been lost or is rotting in old magazines, so there may be wild shit hiding out there, but most of it isn't very good. You can go further back into Victorian era detective and adventure fiction, the Torture Garden has a lot of those tropes.

Try Jirel of Joiry, a pulp heroine of the same era as Howard (CL Moore and he wrote each other). But while Howard came up with Sonja in name only, Moore wrote her in Jirel - fiery haired aristocratic warlord in a magical medieval France.

First couple of stories are about her descending into hell to gain special powers to conquer her foes, and ends up battling lots of slimy weird things.

Vernor Vinge is extremely good. Some argue that Tatja Grimm is his weakest work, but this is only because he won Hugo and Nebula awards for A fire upon the deep and his other novels. He is one of the biggest sci fi authors out there.
All im going to say is that Tatja is a sci fi novel too. It might not look like it from the start, I guess that's another thing that make it cool.
