You can see here how the two main complaints of the book are opposite. Is the book a bland encyclopedia of technical terms related to tennis and drugs, or is it an unformated mess of a book filled with undiscernable random information?

I think people regularly miss that the footnotes are self referentially mocking academia's tendency to be overly verbose and dry. I don't see how this is missed, considering the footnotes are way funnier than the real kind of footnotes that DFW is making fun of.

WellI don't think it is really meant to be an "academic book". It just a work of fiction. The other comment about the book being to dense was more a response to the other anon.
