People always talk about movie adaptation, but what are some /lit/ staples that should be adapted into a video game?

Blood Meridian would translate well as a game opposed to a film or TV series with all the violence the player would be forced to partake in.
The struggle is that most games need violence for gameplay so you're limited somewhat. I'd love a more faithful adaptation of roadside picnic or annihilation that is more focused on exploration than violence in STALKER.
I love both metro series.

Stories don't translate that well into games. The beauty of most these stories is the prose, not exactly the plot.

Bullshit, humans are story loving creatures. Sure the craft in which they are told is great and all, but no one gives a shit about them if the story isn’t good. Story is king in all mediums, if you aren’t telling a good story then fuck off.

Red dead redemption, final fantasy 7, half life 2, metal gear solid 2, Silent Hill, Shadow of the Colossus.

My point is that games or books need to focus on a good story, the great prose doesn’t prevent a book from being adapted into a game, the unengaging narrative does

The difference with games is that the story just serves as a motivator for gameplay. Games didn't start getting their recognition for crafting great stories until the 2010s, because before that they were all basic premises to serve as set dressing for whatever genre of game you were playing. It hasn't changed much. Most games either take heavy inspiration or outright plagiarize other mediums.
Games are fun and I've enjoyed several game stories, but nothing has been original and anything that tries to tell a deeper story ends up betraying the interactivity that the medium allows.
Hotline Miami is one of the best games to serve as an example of what stories and themes a VIDEO GAME can uniquely explore.

RDR1 directly copies plot elements from The Wild Bunch and Spaghetti Westerns. RDR2 could be a novel but it probably wouldn't get as much acclaim as the game.

So what? There’s nothing new under the sun. The point I’m making isn’t that games are superior or anything like that, I’m saying a great story can be translated from a book to a movie to a game if done properly. Prose, visuals and gameplay are all just tools, not the end result, of captivating someone’s interest.

People in general love stories no matter the medium in which they are told.
