I have just come to the conclusion that a big part of the human condition is being unhappy with what you have and your surroundings no matter where you are or who you are in this life. Any good books about learning to be content?

sounds like Xunzi's take on confucianism. He argued man was inherently evil and thus wanted to be good because man wants what he does not have.

Genetic engineering might eventually make it possible to abolish suffering entirely.

"Being content" is for women and minorities playing games on their smartphones, you are white and male, you need to devote your life to either achieving moksha and escaping samsara or conquering others and forcing them to behave better

Being content with little is an important part of both of those goals though.
The problem is that most people confuse satiation with contentedness. A monk is content just focusing on his breath, because he's conquered his desires. Consoomers attempt to satiate their desires by feeding them, but this only makes them grow stronger.
The one thing that serious people shouldn't be content with is degenerate behavior and desires allowed to run wild, which I think is the intent of your comment

Escapism isn’t a key to success and the key is constantly opening the door of the spirit.
