Does anyone here actually ever forgo socializing to read? Or is it simply something to do to pass time when there's nothing else?

I'm asking because I've picked up reading as a productive hobby since I have no friends, but I'm having trouble doing it because I'm aware that I'm essentially using it as a cope. This awareness make it less enjoyable.

ONE OF MY FEMALE COUSINS GOT MARRIED TODAY; THE REST OF MY FAMILY IS AT THE AFTERWEDDING PARTY; I DID NOT ATTEND EITHER: I AM ASOCIAL; I RELINQUISH MY RIGHTS AS A MEMBER OF SOCIETY WHENEVER I WANT, BECAUSE I DISLIKE PEOPLE, NOT BECAUSE I AM A SOCIALLY CRIPPLED TIMID NERD; I READ FOR LEISURE, NOT FOR DIVERSION.

A GUESS: YOUR FAVOURITE GENRE IS, EITHER, «SCIENCE FICTION», OR HISTORICAL FICTION.

I don’t really socialize anymore. That seemed to stop around 25 or so.

i used to be like this and then i got friends. and then i got annoyed that i couldn't read as much anymore because i had other shit taking up my time. you will find friends again and then you will realise that a good balance of reading will be better than what you are doing now. it won't be a cope anymore.
