Part of the Aubrey-Maturin series. After Jack is dismissed from the Royal Navy for a stock market scandal he briefly turns privateer.
Even when he was Royal Navy, Jack took great pleasure in taking prizes (enemy ships) and getting paid a percentage of their worth by the government. So like most Englishman he was always a bit of a pirate.
