>read chapter explanations before each chapter
>it suddenly becomes perfectly coherent
>actually pay attention to each sentence
>the strange spellings and neologisms suddenly begin to naturally unfold their meaning

It's always seens as "schizo" when they can't comprehend it, as if they were the baseline.

Do you usually not pay attention to sentences?

Ok. You understand it . Now what? Why should I spend several hours reading this?

I like challenging material, but I don't want to have an aneurysm from reading.

That said, how's Ulysses? It's coming up on my reading list after years of pushing it back.

Roland McHugh's annotations to Finnegans Wake is the best companion; Campbell's skeleton key is too jungian and joyce despised Jung and freud

Ulysses is very clearly written.
It's a very fun (and funny) book mostly, and each chapter is written in a different style mimicking the writing of famous authors. There are a couple of chapters that are physically tiring to read and demands lots of effort Oxen of the Sun but that is on purpose, of course.

Ehh I was able to understand up to the section on force and understanding which seemed pure schizo even while reading explanations. But science of logic is supposed to be much easier.

Trying to read this book literally felt like being a schizophrenic.
Maybe I'll try it again.
This seems like a better list of sources than wikipedia though

Not based, he was just jung and easily freudened.

Daily reminder that the fact that Joyce had to distribute the Gilbert and Linati schemata to his very erudite first readers is proof that his work failed as an artpiece.
Daily reminder that the fact that you need to read sparksnotes to enjoy FW is proof that his work failed as an artpiece.
Daily reminder that the most apt summary of Joyce is a queasy undergraduate scratching his pimples.
