he conservatives are fools: They whine about the decay of traditional values, yet they enthusiastically support technological progress and economic growth. Apparently it never occurs to them that you can't make rapid, drastic changes in the technology and the economy of a society without causing rapid changes in all other aspects of the society as well, and that such rapid changes inevitably break down traditional values.”

Technology is a tool. Nothing more or less. The worship of tools such as technology is the same mistake as worshipping other tools in their various forms (like political ideologies or economic systems). These tools should be used when they are convenient and discarded when they are harmful, but instead they embraced as religions to be adhered to at all costs, even past their usefulness which often times leads to problems

given the nature of the game anything that will have benefits short term must be implemented even if it has disastrous long term consequences if the alternative is being outcompeted now. That's how we ended up with the world we have.

Nu-right/alt-Right/MAGA//pol/?

None really. There is BAP I guess, but it's a more anti-intellectual movement than most anti-intellectual movements. It's mostly focused on the news cycle events of the day. The big figures in the movement are primarily into video and audio, and outrage porn of the week is very dominant. It's very much a reflection of the algorithm/hits driven world of "content creation."

>Traditional conservatives
Francis Fukuyama is probably the most influential political scientist of the past few decades with some extremely impressive work. His two volume opus on state development is fantastic. The End of History and The Last Man is shit on by people who never took the time to understand the theses. The Last Man theses had proven especially prescient with the whole wave of tactilarp and desire for war and conflict to "give life meaning."

There is Charles Murray. While his policy prescriptions are generally milquetoast 90s GOP policy, his diagnoses of the West's major issues is spot on. His attempt to link growing inequality to genetics is speculative at best, excuse making for recalcitrant elites that fundamentally misunderstands heritability at its worse, but other stuff he's done is worth engaging with.

Huntington hasn't been gone that long, and some of his less well known students like Feaver write good op eds.

There is Sowell. I am not a huge fan but he definitely counts and was good in debates.

The problem is, for the nu-Right, these guys are the "bad guys." The evil elites, and essentially leftists, and that very vocal minority steers conservative culture, so are these guys still conservative?

There are lots of big conservative writers on defense policy, but they seem even more exiled out of the new movement. Hell, the movement is now downright hostile to the military and security agencies. Petreus, Espers, Mattis, now public enemies.

There are also lots of influential right wing religious thinkers but that's sort of further outside politics.
