20th century literature is stronger than anything prior solely because it moved out of boring bland realism

Yeah I’m having a real nice time reading postmodern lit atm. Faggots lied to me. These people are simply in complete fear of the times.

YOU HAVE NEVER READ ANYTHING FROM BEYOND THE LATE XVIII CENTURY —IF YOU HAVE EVEN READ ANYTHING THAT OLD.

> FROM BEYOND

YOU THINK ERRONEOUSLY; THE BEYOND CAN BE TOWARD THE PAST, OR TOWARD THE FUTURE; IMPLICIT, THE SENSE IN WHICH I MEANT IT.

Why is it boring and bland to you? Don't you find it insightful? I always learn when reading 19th century realism because the psychological insights of the authors are so profound and true. I can feel that it's made me a much better person. And filled me with more empathy. Meanwhile most 20th century literature just makes me sick. The authors don't give me the impression that they hold great wisdom which they're kindly passing on to you. On the contrary, most of them have issues, are not at peace with themselves and the world and seemingly want to instill their own doubt and torment in others - misery likes company. I feel much more at home in 19th century realism than anything since

Actually if you’re using it in the temporal sense, it is only towards the future. The way you’ve used “from beyond” here actually modifies the statement so that it reads more like you’re saying 1800 onwards, which I assume is the opposite of what you mean. If you mean beyond as in “outside of”, then there is no directionality at all.

lol what
this goes for most great authors, these issues and not being at peace with themselves and everything around them is what makes them so profound and interesting to read in the first place like dosto and tolstoy

Realism became a thing only post Flaubert and the Russians.
