Is Falstaff’s end tragic? Or does he get his comeuppance in some way?

A lot of people have this rosy picture of Falstaff. (Orson Welles is a good example. He really thought he was one of the most truly, deeply good men in all of literature.) Shakespeare wasn't nearly so sentimental. He shows Falstaff's good points but doesn't ever shy away from his bad ones.

Yeah, Falstaff deserves to die as he does.

>Prince Hal: The Role transcends You
>Falstaff: You transcend The Role

That's all I could think of off the top of my head, admittedly I didn't really like Falstaff that much, I think Howard Bloom's hyperbole sort of blew up my expectations and I came back disappointed. I was still initially shocked and hurt when Hal "transformed" for his fight with Hotspur, executed prisoners, rejected Falstaff, etc. But I think that's what the audience was supposed to feel, and it drove the message home about royal duty.

Other takes would be appreciated.

Aristotle's tragedy involves a man, not completely virtuous, but of good quality, fall from grace due, not to vice or misfortune, but to an error on his part.
Falstaff isn't a saint, but he certainly has good character, and he isn't rejected by Henry V because he's evil, but because of his temperament and nature.

Coward, liar, gets his division killed because he enlists a bunch of ill-equipped retards, makes a mockery of Hotspur's death.
