Is this a real phenomenon? Have you ever experienced it?

I had this problem when I was a kid. Whenever my parents would take me to a nice toy shop, they had to take me to the bathroom first, otherwise I'd want to take a piss or a shit.
Nowadays I have a good bowel schedule, so I don't have to shit. But I still get excited when I go to nice places and I have to use the bathroom.

Bookstores or anywhere when I leave home, no.
Hits me at home when I'm doing something that's (1) random and (2) vaguely comfy like looking at Google Earth views of an old railway station I can visit in my city or looking at some meet-up group I can attend or watching a '90s infomercial on speedreading.

btw, did happen a few days ago when I was at home looking at pics of a second-hand bookstore. I held in my shit for an hour or so to enjoy the sensation.

All modern books are good for is toilet paper, so I understand how walking into bookstore might activate some Pavlovian trigger that you are actually in a bathroom.

I think walking around in a relaxing quiet place probably sends a message to your brain that it's safe to shit.
For me it's visiting the local garden centre. Good thing it has a bathroom or else I'd be adding to the log pile instead of taking from it.

Why is it always the axis powers that develop depraved fetishes and are drawn to scat. Is it their aryan heritage that links them and their behavior to poo territory?

i get this whenever i see a cardboard cut out of michael obama and her(his) big gorilla grin. except instead of the urge to defecate it's the urge to start stabbing people with a very sharp knife.

this is the 'thing-on-a-spring' effect, you get it from listening to the intro screen to thing on a spring on commodore 64.

Well in the case of Germany it's because they're a depraved and neurotic nation from centuries of being forcibly put together, torn apart, then put together again. Nietzsche's various neruoses stem in part from this instability at the heart of the German character.

I usually have to have a coffee before any sense of fecal urgency

My sister used to get this at Barnes and Noble. I did not get this. I didn't believe her. She used to shit her pants a lot. I wonder if people who get this also used to shit their pants a lot.

Is this normal? I just piss and shit whenever I feel like and don't think much about it. I often end up using construction porta potties and the like. One time I used a porta potty outside an elementary school, and once I vacated it there was a huge line of kids outside.
