All good art comes from one of two types of people (though some people fall into both camps):
1) People who really enjoy the craft, i.e. people who really love to paint or really love the act of sculpting, etc.
2) People who need an emotional outlet and have found a medium that suits their needs for expression.
Anyone who merely WANTS to be a writer, or WANTS to be a filmmaker will make trash. Some people make exactly the kind of trash that sells, but that's dumb luck of having just that perfect, tiny amount of taste mixed with adequate technical proficiency for mass appeal. Those people are basically fungible and can be readily replaced by any other flavor of the week propped-up (((artist))) who sells big but will be completely forgotten in a couple decades. If you have nothing to write about, don't write. If you have nothing to sing about, don't sing. Go ahead and practice if you enjoy honing your skills, but don't expect anyone to be wowed by your empty nothings, because that's all they are unless you are merely trying to decide HOW to tell your story, not what story you are going to tell. Great art is an imperative that the author couldn't keep in if they tried; nothing great ever came from someone struggling to think of ideas as they stare at a blank page.
